Two new teams will be introduced in March

The winning bids for the two new IPL franchises which will join the league in 2011 will be announced on Monday, March 8th just before the start of IPL 3.0.

The announcement was made by IPL commissioner Lalit Modi on Twitter, he also revealed that the cities in contention to host franchises were Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Kanpur, Dharamsala, Indore, Cuttack, Gwalior and Visakapatnam.

Rajkot, Pune, Vadodara and Kochi are also locations the IPL would consider but the bids would be dependent on the construction of new cricket stadiums.

"Tenders can be collected from the Board of Control for Cricket in India office or the IPL office from February 21," Modi said. "The bids will be opened on March 8 in Mumbai."

"Details of the bidding process for two new teams will be in the tender document" he added.

The base rate for the new franchises have been at $215 million but the high price hasn't put of bidders with Modi announcing a few weeks ago that he has received over 40 requests from interested parties.
